I've never used cloth nappies – what if I don't like them?
Modern cloth nappies have so many advantages over disposables and are nothing like what your mother and grandmother used. If you have never used one and aren't sure you will like them, why not invest in a single nappy? Our bundles of 10 offer great value but if you're undecided, look for our single nappy and liner listing. You can choose your colour and, like many of products, we offer free postage. This really is a no-risk way to explore the wonderful and affordable world of cloth nappies! We can afford to do this because we know you'll be back for more!
I hear so much about bamboo these days – why's it special?
We have been sourcing more and more bamboo products for our Bountiful Bubs range because our customers' love them! We currently stock Organic Flushable Bamboo Liners for our modern cloth nappies and Re-usable Bamboo Breast Pads and our customer feedback has been overwhelming!
Bamboo is naturally antiseptic (which makes perfect sense for nappies!), more absorbent than cotton and breathes beautifully. This makes it perfect for wearing against the skin. It is also more sustainable for the planet, as bamboo plants require very little water (compared to thirsty crops like cotton which use up to 20,000 litres of water to produce 1kg).
Keep watching our listings, as we will be bringing you more bamboo products soon!
How do I know if your products work?
We've done the research for you. We've considered all the options and found the best value for money products on the market. Some of our brands, such as PHILIPS AVENT, may already be familiar to you. Others have been sourced independently and we have taken every step to ensure they are sustainable, hard-working and the right price. As an online store we bring fantastic prices, convenient shopping and excellent after sales service. We've road-tested our products ourselves and know you will be delighted with your purchase.
A friend's just had a baby – what should I give them?
It can be hard to buy for someone else and most new parents will tell you what they want most is a decent night's sleep! All our products are designed to make parenting easier (yes, even cloth nappies – they are so simple to use and really do save a small fortune!).
Take a look at our gift pack listing – we offer beautifully presented baskets which we can send straight to the new parents. Choose from our Classic Pack for $67 or create your own. New parents will love receiving a gift that is so practical, luxurious and sustainable. A Bountiful Bubs gift really does keep giving.

Bountiful Bubs modern cloth nappy wash and care instructions
Even before you have your baby you will be inundated with opinions and advice on what you should and shouldn't do with your baby! The same is true when it comes to advice on washing and caring for modern cloth nappies.
Bountiful Bubs provides these tips based on our own experience and feedback from parents who are long-term users of modern cloth nappies. However remember this is a guide only – you may get a different result and in the end you will work out what it best for you and your baby.
The number one tip we hear time and time again is SUNSHINE! The best way to care for your modern cloth nappies is to ensure they get lots of lots of sunshine – a natural sanitiser, the sun will keep your nappies fresh and dry.
Sizes – surely they are too big for newborns?
Bountiful Bubs modern cloth nappies are suitable for newborns from 3kg right up to toddlers. The adjustable snap together double press-studs mean you can adjust the size to suit your baby. If you think your newborn's legs are too thin try using two inserts to make it thicker.
You may also find two inserts helpful if your baby is a particularly heavy wetter or for night time nappies.
How many nappies?
This will mostly depend on how often you'll be able to wash and dry the nappies, as well as how far your budget will stretch. Newborn babies can go through 10 nappies a day easily and you'll need the same amount again for the day you are washing. At a minimum 20 nappies could see you through, however you will need to be able to wash every day and ensure the nappies dry in time. To make life easier 30-40 nappies is recommended, more if you can afford it.
Washing – before you start
It is recommended to give modern cloth nappies and any inserts a wash before using them on your baby. This will help the nappies reach their full absorbency potential, as well as removing anything left behind in the production process.
Do no be disappointed if the nappies do not seem very absorbent when you start. It can take up to 10 uses before they reach their maximum absorbency. Changing nappies often and washing frequently with only a small amount of detergent will also assist in this process.
Washing – day-to-day
While it is probably ideal to wash modern cloth nappies every day, it isn't always practical, especially in a household with a baby!
If you are looking to reduce the amount of washing with modern cloth nappies you can consider using disposable, flushable, biodegradable liners. Just tip the liner and waste in the toilet and wash the nappy as normal. Alternatively you might like to use a washable liner – the same principle applies – just remove the waste and wash both the liner and nappy.
If your toilet/bathroom allows it, a high pressure squirty hose is an excellent investment for modern cloth nappies. You can spray off all waste into the toilet and washing will be even easier!
There is no need to soak modern cloth nappies, to do so can in fact be detrimental to the life of the nappy. Just remove waste and place in a bucket with a lid until washing day.
It is recommended to not leave it any more than 2-3 days before washing nappies as it may make it more difficult to remove stains or stubborn odours.
The best temperature to wash nappies is cool to warm and definitely not above 30 degrees.
Many people swear by bi-carb soda instead of detergent or soap nuts, together with vinegar on the rinse cycle to remove any odour build up. Followed by a final clean water rinse. This method is also useful for removing any persistent stains – as is line drying in the full sun.
Alternatively normal washing detergent/powder is fine as long as there are no added bleaches or fabric softeners as these will break down the components of the nappy. Only use half or a third of the normal amount of detergent.
Tumble-drying is not recommended – it will shorten the lifespan of the nappy. If it absolutely necessary, a low temperature is best.
The best method for drying is in full sun taking full advantage of the natural sanitiser and bleaching agent! Make sure you put the inner side of the nappy towards the sun.
It may be necessary to do a strip wash of your modern cloth nappies from time to time. You will know it is time to do a strip wash when the nappies have an excessive smell or are leaking. A build up of detergent or nappy rash cream can contribute to this.
Place clean and dry nappies in a hot wash with half a cup of bi-carb soda and half a cup of white vinegar. Follow this with a normal wash without any detergent. If there are still soapy bubbles while washing, continue with a rinse cycle until there are no more bubbles. It may be necessary to repeat the hot wash cycle (with no detergent) and then more rinse cycles until the water runs clear. Line dry in full sun.
Using a modern cloth nappy should be just like using a disposable nappy, so no leaks unless in exceptional circumstances! Check to see if:
1 The nappy is fitted correctly. If it is too loose the moisture will leak out and not be absorbed.
2 It has been some time since you last changed the nappy. They need to be changed every 2- 3 hours. Maybe more often if you h ave an especially heavy wetter. Two inserts might be necessary.
3 The nappy is new (less than 10 uses) it is probably not yet at its maximum absorbency level.
4 It's time for a strip wash (see above).
