Men's Cargo Shorts

Captain Dave Inc. offers a wide range of men’s shorts in different colors and styles.  While we do offer some shorts suitable for athletic wear, the vast majority are cargo shorts and sport multiple pockets.   Here is some information on these shorts based on popularity:

Our most popular line of men’s cargo shorts is the Infantry Utility Short.  These are large-- some would even say over-sized – baggy shorts that feature an extra- long leg, coming down to at least the knee on an individual of average height.  They also offer a relaxed fit, allowing ample room for your thighs, and multiple pockets, including two big pleated cargo pockets.  They have a standard zipper fly but also offer a draw string waist so you can go with a belted look without the risk of being de-pantsed. 

As the name implies, these cargo shorts are inspired by military designs and use a vintage  look material in a range of colors, inclusing several camouflage patterns. The 100% cotton fabric is washed to provide a soft feel and slightly worn or distressed look.  The combination means that they will look and feel like an old friend.

Vintage Paratrooper Cargo Shorts

Our second most popular collection of shorts is the vintage cargo short line.  These are a slightly shorter short – meaning they end just above or at the knees for on most people, and are great for walking, hiking and other outdoor activities.  A good, all-around casual short, they look good, are comfortable, and offer plenty of pockets for your smart phone and other gear.  These shorts are also called our Vintage Paratrooper Cargo Shorts because they are very similar to our Paratrooper Cargo Pants, which are modeled on pants worn by U.S. Army parartoopers in the 1950s.  These are quite popular in black, olive, and brown, as well as camo.

BDU Shorts

Finally, we offer traditional BDU shorts – BDU standing for Battle Dress Uniform.  These shorts are a more narrow cut and have a more uniform look to them.  The BDU shorts can be worn by the U.S. Coast Guard, fire fighters, delivery men, EMTs, and anyone who needs a short with a more formal, or uniform look than a baggy cargo short.  Captain Dave’s offers traditional BDU shorts as well as longer shorts that provide a longer inseam while maintaining the trimmer cut of the BDU.

Unlike the vintage shorts, the BDU shorts are not distressed, washed or faded.  They have crisper colors and are usually available in poly/cotton twill, although some models are also available in 100% cotton rip stop.  From a uniform perspective, navy blue and black are usually a good choice, but khaki and olive drab may also suit.  Finally, the BDU shorts are also available in range of camouflage pattern from military colors such as desert digital camo and tiger stripe to fashion colors like sky blue or ultraviolet, a purple-based camouflage that has to be seen to be believed.
