Oops! I ordered the wrong size or color, can I change it?

We cannot guarantee that we can make the change, but we will do our best to accommodate you. Please keep in mind that if a color or size you want is not listed in our eBay store then it is probably out of stock.

The best time to contact us about an error is before you make your payment. You can also leave a note requesting the change when you make your PayPal payment.

If you discover the mistake after you have paid, it is important that you contact us immediately! We ship quickly, often in just hours, so if you wait too long to contact us, it may be too late to change your order. Once an order has been packed and shipped an is on our loading dock, it cannot be changed.

If you discovered your mistake at night or over the weekend, please write to us using the Ask a Question link at the bottom of the eBay listing. If you placed your order during the day, please call us at 919-384-9760 or toll free at 877-41-DAVES.

Once we make a change, you should receive an email confirming the change. Please be sure to check the address on record with your eBay account.


You told me you changed my order, but the change is not reflected in by eBay account.

When we change an order after you have paid for it, we will have a record of this change in our internal systems, but eBay will not be aware of the change. As a result, your "My eBay" page will still reflect the original item, as will any emails from eBay.

Unfortunately, there is no mechanism that will allow us to change the item within eBay's system once you have checked out. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any confusion that may result.


I've changed my mind, can I cancel my order?

We discourage canceling orders because of the trouble and expense involved, so please be sure before you commit to buying.

If, however, you must cancel an order, please contact us immediately as we can only cancel an order before it is packaged and on the loading dock, which often takes place within a few hours. Once an order has shipped, it cannot be cancelled, only returned.

I really like one of your products, but you have a limited number of them listed. How can I buy more?

How can I determine how much my shipping will be?

Each listing provides basic shipping costs for domestic, canadian and international shipping. You can see all available options by clicking on the eBay Shipping and Payments tab near the top of the listing.


Will you ship to my P.O. Box?

Yes, we are glad to ship to P.O. Boxes via Priority Mail or First Class Mail. Please keep in mind that UPS does not deliver to a P.O. Box. If you provide a P.O. Box address and request UPS shipping, your order will be delayed.

Please note, items with free shipping via UPS will not ship free to a P.O. Box, but will usually have a discounted shipping rate via Priority Mail.


Will you ship to an APO/FPO address?

Of course! What kind of army navy store would we be if we weren't willing to support our troops in the field? Please select Priority Mail or First Class Mail as your shipping option and note that military mail does not always provide delivery confirmation. UPS Does not ship to APO/FPO addresses.

Please note, items with free shipping to the continental U.S. will usually have free or discount a discount shipping to an APO/FPO address.


Your item description said I would receive it in two to three business days, but it took a week. What gives?

We make every effort to ship items as quickly as possible, but actual delivery time depends on your location and the class of service you selected during checkout. When we say an item will ship in two to three days, we mean it will leave our warehouse in that timeframe.

How quickly you receive your item once it ships depends on the shipping service you selected and where you are located. Generally, the further west you live, the longer it will take to be delivered, especially for UPS.


I am in France (or Canada, the U.K., Australia, Italy or another country) and I have not received my item. It's been three weeks! What can I do?

Our best advice is to be patient. International air mail delivery can sometimes take four weeks, especially if there is a delay at customs. The shipping estimates provided by eBay are in Business Days and do not include weekends.

How quickly an item takes to arrive overseas depends on the shipping method you selected during checkout. If you want your item quickly, select Expedited shipping. If you selected the cheapest method (usually Economy or even Standard shipping, then you may have to wait from 10 days to as long as four weeks or even more in extreme cases.

In our experience, most items to Canada arrive within 10 days to two weeks while items to Europe can average two to three weeks. Italy and some Eastern European countries can take longer.

Please note, packages sent via First Class Mail International or Priority Mail International cannot always be tracked. If you want the highest degree of security and tracking, you must select Expedited shipping.

Can you ship my item internationally as a gift to save me customs duty and taxes?

No, we cannot. Captain Dave Inc. is a corporation and corporations cannot send gifts. While some individual sellers may be able to send purchases as a gift, this is a fraudulent practice and should be discouraged.


What happens if my order is never received?

Occasionally, packages are returned to us as undeliverable. Should this happen, we will contact you via e-mail and give you the option of having it re-shipped or treated as a return. Please note that we pass all shipping charges (including UPS fees for returns) on to the customer unless we have made an error.

Returns and Exchanges

How do I make a return?

Your package should have complete return instructions in it. Here's a short recap: Ship the item back to us at Captain Dave Inc., Attn: Returns. 2305 Orangewood Drive, Suite 101, Durham NC 27705. Be sure to include your name and item number or reference number so we can credit your account. All items must be returned within 30 days and in new or like-new condition. We will refund your account for the item, minus shipping costs and a 15% restocking fee to cover eBay and other selling expenses. All refunds are issued via the same method you used to make the payment. Shipping and handling is non-refundable. Please allow 2 to 4 business days to process your return.


I received an email stating that you refunded my account after my return, but I do not see the money in my account. Where is it?

Depending on your bank or credit card issuer, it may take 24 to 48 hours for a refund to show up, sometimes longer for international transactions.

When we make a refund, the money goes back to the account you used when you paid. If you used funds in your PayPal account, the money has been returned to your PayPal account. If the source of funds was your credit card, PayPal usually returns those funds to your credit card. Since all our eBay transactions are handled through PayPal, we recommend that your check your PayPal account.


How do I make an exchange?

Your package should include information on how to make a return or exchange. Here's a short recap: To get your replacement item quickly, we recommend ordering it here on eBay or at http://shop.captaindaves.com/. When you return your old item, please note in the package that it is an exchange. We will then waive the restocking fee and credit your account for the total item purchase price. See the question above, on returns, for information on returning your original item.


Why are some items non-returnable?

The vast majority of the items we sell are returnable. When an item is non-returnable, it can be for a variety of reasons: Some items, such as swimsuits and underwear and swimwear, cannot be returned due to various state or federal laws and good hygiene. Food cannot be returned because our customers need to be confident that it is new and untampered with. Some items, such as gas masks, are non returnable because we do not want to sell used safety gear. (Would you trust your life to a gas mask that we cannot certify as new?)


I liked my boots when I opened the package, but now that I have worn them a few times, they hurt my feet. Can I return them?

We have a relatively generous returns policy – 30 days. However, the item has to be in new condition, in its original packaging materials. Once you have worn your boots, they are no longer new and we cannot accept their return. While a large department store may accept returns, they have to pass that cost on to their customers. We prefer to keep our costs low and accept only those items that can be resold as new.

We encourage you to try on your item before removing the labels and destroying the packaging materials. If you find you don't like it or it doesn't fit well, we are happy to exchange it or accept a return. Please note that we charge a 15% restocking fee and shipping is not refundable.

For your boots, break them a little at a time over a week or so. Don't wear them eight hours the first day and expect them to feel like your sneakers.


I opened my package, and you sent me a different item than I had purchased – what should I do?

We make every effort to send you the correct item. Once in a while, however, a mistake sneaks through. If we made a mistake packing your order, or if the description is materially different than the item you received, please contact us using the Ask a Question linke or via phone at 919-384-9760 or 877-41-DAVES before leaving feedback and we will quickly fix the problem at no additional cost to you. Please note that this guarantee only applies to our errors. It does not apply to items that do not fit or items you do not like. For example, if you ordered (and received) a size large, and you need a size medium, our guarantee does not apply. I returned my item and USPS says you received it yesterday. When will you credit my account?

Product Questions and Definitions

What is Rip-Stop?

Rip-stop (also known as ripstop) refers to the type of cloth a garment is made out of. Rip-stop cloth has double threads approximately every quarter inch, which prevent small tears from spreading. If you look closely, this gives the cloth small squares in a graph paper-like grid. Rip-stop cloth is usually lighter in weight than twill, making it ideal for warm weather, especially when 100% cotton.


What is Twill?

Twill is a common textile weave that gives clothing the appearance of having diagonal lines, similar to that seen in the denim of most blue jeans. It results in a heavy, durable piece of cloth and in our store is most frequently seen in our pants and BDUs.


What does Raglan mean?

Raglan refers to the type of sleeve on a garment. A raglan sleeve attaches to the garment on a slanted line from the underarm. In our store, most raglan garments are t-shirts and they usually have a solid color sleeve setting off a camouflage body.


What is Ramie?

Some of our clothing is made from a cotton/ramie blend. Ramie is a plant fiber made from the Ramie, or China Grass, plant and has been used in textiles since ancient times. It is a cellulosic substance like cotton or linen. It has great strength and durability, is resistant to rot and mildew and is comfortable to wear. Clothing made from cotton/ramie blends can be machine washed, although cold water is generally recommended.


Why are some items called coyote tan and some desert tan, desert, khaki, or flat dark earth? Aren't these colors all basically the same?

While the colors are similar, they are not identical. Desert tan and desert are probably the same color, but coyote tan tends to be darker and flat dark earth may be even darker yet.

Coyote tan is the color that best matches the digital camo of the U.S. Marine Corps and is suitable for use in both desert and woodland environments. As a result, it is gaining in popularity. Coyote tan also is a non-threatening color for civilian applications. While a camo pack or gun case may stand out, the same piece of gear in coyote tan it is less likely to raise an eyebrow.

The confusion results because we try to consistently list an item with the color given to us by the manufacturer. Because we deal with numerous suppliers, that can result in a wide range of colors.


What does MOLLE stand for?

MOLLE or M.O.L.L.E stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment, and has largely replaced the older ALICE gear in the military. MOLLE vests and packs have PALS (Pocket attachment ladder systems) that allow you to add multiple pieces of gear to a vest or pack. For example, you can hang holsters, utility pouches, magazine pouches or a hydration carrier on your vest or pack. This extends the load-bearing capabilities of your equipment and allows your kit to be customized to your current mission.

Items that are MOLLE compatible should work together, even if they are from different manufacturers.


What does ECWCS stand for?

ECWCS stands for Extended Cold Weather Clothing System and is a multi-layer system designed to keep the wearer warm in a wide range of climatic conditions and activity levels. It is usually made up of an inner layer (ECWCS thermal underwear) one or more middle layers such as a fleece vest and a windproof and waterproof outer layer made from GoreTex or similar materials. These layers are designed to work together to wick moisture away from the skin and prevent the wearer from getting a chill if they stop moving after working up a sweat.


What is Thermoblock?

Thermoblock is a thin, lightweight layer of insulation very similar to Thinsulate. it can be used in gloves, boots, and outerwear


What is Hyvat?

Hyvat is a waterproof, breathable, wind-resistant material similar to GoreTex. If is a technical fabric that is usually used on high-end outerwear that is thin and lightweight. It makes an excellent outer layer.
