Easter is coming soon, it’s a great time to take some memorable photographs with your family or lover. Being your online digital partner, dzone2 would like you enjoy and good at photography. We provide a handy guide to describe proper photo taking methods for improving your skill. It is a getting started guide for those who are new in photography and a quick reference guide for the seniors. In the following sections, we talk about both digital camera (DC) and digital single lens reflect camera (DSLR) |
| Landscape (DC vs. DSLR) |

|
Landscape photography depicts scenery such as rivers, mountains, buildings, lakes, trees, and forests and so on. The sky is always a major part in the composition; you need to pay attention to the horizontal balance. In addition, the weather usually is another main concern. To taking landscape photograph, a DC that equipped with an anti-shake function and of wide-angle focal length such as 24mm—28mm would be very good for this purpose.

|
If you are using an APS size DSLR, a lens of 17mm—18mm focal length is the basic requirement for taking landscape photograph. AV mode becomes very useful because it allows you to reduce the diaphragm to avoid out-of-focus situation. Besides, you may adjust the level of sharpness. By the same token, TV mode enables you to control the expose time to achieve many effects such as a long track of light. |

| Portrait (DC vs. DSLR) |
For portrait photography, there are many different skills and techniques. Usually it is more desirable to capture the person’s eyes and face in sharp focus while allowing other less important elements to be rendered in a soft focus. It will definitely be better if you can also capture the subject’s mood. When you use a DC, remember to use the flash when the environment is dark or inversely when the background is significantly brighter than the subject. Usually, if you switch to the portrait mode at your DC, the tone and the saturation gives better color image. In addition, it’s more desirable to have an anti-shake function if you are using a long focal length.

When we use a SLR type camera to take portrait photography, again, the AV mode helps control the depth of field in order to separate the model from the background. Smaller depth of field makes your model more outstanding from the surroundings. Some camera also equipped with picture style to give more lovely facial color and skin tone. |

Biological (DC vs. DSLR)
|
The macro photography relates closely to biological/ nature photography. It is because the common macro subjects such as butterflies, bees and dragonflies could be describes as wildlife, these insects ‘world and life also makes for good photography. DC with a close-up mode is designed for this kind of usage. However, most of the SLR type camera users would not use this mode in their SLR camera. They would rather use AV to control the relevant depth of field. Of course, the most convenient way to close-up nature photography is getting a macro lens. It might be optimized to provide its best performance at a magnification of 1:1. A macro lens is able to give higher level of resolution and better magnification. Very small depth of field of close up photography give rise to the essentiality to accurate focus and focus critically on the most important part of the subject as other focal plane may be significantly blurry. Last but not least, high speed shutter can capture and freeze subject that is hardly be caught by human eyes |
