The kaftan found her way into popular French fashion in the 1890’s, in the 1950’s Christian Dior and Balenciaga adopted the kaftan as a loose evening robe in their collections. Of course they were hugely popular among the hippies and celebrities of the 60’s and 70’s, Liz Taylor famously wore a kaftan during her second wedding to Richard Burton in 1975!
But nowadays I can’t imagine life without (several) kaftans. The incredible array of delicate fabrics and embellishments available and the bold colour combinations make the kaftan a universal garment. Irrespective of your geographical location, religion, status, gender or budget, they are available to everyone.
The Indians are the Masters of fabric, colour and embellishment usually done meticulously by hand, we are proud to collaborate with them on this project of passion and love!
