Wig Product Guide
Wig Care (Synthetic Hair)
Our synthetic wigs are made from the latest simultaed hair strands and, when properly cared for, will give you plenty of enjoyable wear. Just follow the instructions below to get the maximum life-span and performance from your wig.
Washing
Synthetic wigs should be washed in cool water with a mild shampoo and conditioner. (Using conditioner is highly recommended to reduce tangling.) Do not scrub the wig, just swish it from side to side and dunk it up and down. Wigs should be hung to dry. (Synthetic wigs may also be set when wet. See Styling below.)
Gently brush the wig thoroughly with a wig brush. (never brush out a wet wig)
Add one tablespoon of shampoo to a sink filled with cold water.
Immerse wig for one minute and agitate gently. Do not rub.
Rinse the wig gently in cold clear water twice or until thoroughly rinsed.
Blot the wig gently with a towel. Do not squeeze or wring.
Apply conditioning spray very lightly over wig, spraying 10-12 inches from the wig.
Allow the wig to air dry on a slender object like a can of hairspray or a shampoo bottle covered with a hand towel. Styrofoam heads are great for storage or display but may stretch the cap out while still wet.
Do not use a hair dryer. Air dry only. You may gently style the wig with your fingertips.
Brush wig only when completely dry. Do not allow the wig to dry in direct sunlight.
Once dry, spray sheen or detangling spray onto the wig and comb or brush depending on the type of wig you have (See Combing and Brushing below).
Setting
Synthetic hair wigs can be set quite easily by following these instructions:
After washing, comb the hair (as instructed below) then set in rollers with rolling papers and setting lotion
Put the wig under a sitting hair drier on low heat for 40 to 50 minutes. If you do not have access to a sitting drier, the wig may be left on a wig stand or Styrofoam head overnight or until completely dried.
Once dry, take out the rollers and style the wig as desired.
Styling
HOT TOOLS SHOULD NEVER BE USED ON SYNTHETIC WIGS. Hot blow driers, curling irons, flat irons and similar tools will melt the synthetic hair strands and ruin the wig. The only exception is use of a clothing steamer. Synthetic hair may be straightened by placing the wig on a wig stand, steaming the hair with a clothing steamer while combing the hair down.
If wig hair gets frizzy, try any sheen spray or wig spray to calm the frizziness and then comb. If not, wash then set with setting lotion to get the frizziness out. When wigs are tangled, use any detangling or sheen spray then comb the hair.
Combing and Brushing
Comb or brush your wig using the following guidelines:
Short - Straight / Wavy - Any combs or brushes
Short - Curly - Wide toothed comb or brush out with fingers
Chin Length - Straight - Any combs or brushes
Chin Length - Curly / Wavy - Wide toothed comb or brush out with fingers
Long / Very Long - Straight / Wavy - Wide toothed comb
Long / Very Long - Curly - Brush out with fingers
Important Note: Spiral curl and dreadlock wigs should not be combed or brushed in any way, as this will undo the curls/dreads.
Never brush out a wet wig.
Hair Products
Any hair products can be used on wigs, such as hair spray, mousse, gel, etc. since the wigs are washable and reusable.
Wig Storage
While wigs are not in use, they may be stored in a hair net and plastic bag or on a wig stand, such as styrofoam head.
When traveling, a styled wig may be carried in a wig box to prevent flattening.
What if I have long hair?
Make your hair as small and low profile as possible. Pin curls, braids, and corn rows are great to make your own hair sit flat. Then hold this down with a hair net. Putting your hair in a bun could be too thick. Nylon hair nets will hold your hair tight. Net wig cap liners are made to let your scalp breath and they can be held in place with hair clips and hair pins.
Do I need to measure my head?
All of our wigs have an elastic liner to fit average size heads from 20 inches to 23 inches. Our quality version wigs have an adjustable elastic liner that will fit most all sizes. The front of a wig should fall at your natural hair line which is about four fingers above your eye brows. And the back of the wig should meet the natural hairline in the back.
Wig and Extensions Weaving Kit
A majority of celebrities and models are now wearing hair that is not their own more and more. This might include full wigs, falls, wiglets, clip-in locks and extensions of either human or synthetic hair. And many now are sewing in the hair pieces for longer lasting wear or for active people. This is great for people that want the wig to stay in for a long time even when they are active.
Extension combs can be sewn to the existing hair. But what about a full wig... find someone that can corn braid your own hair around your head, so that it looks like the inside net of a wig in a circle and sometimes in rows. Then they can sew the tracks of the wig netting onto the cornrows. Some people are able to use a wig or extensions with this sewing technique for several weeks. This will depend mostly on the quality of your hair and the wig'. This is something that a beauty shop can do, but expect to pay $250 and up for this service!
We also offer spirit gum, liquid latex, crepe hair, and double faced toupee tape for for theatrical and street wear wigs for seamless edges.
Bald Cap Wigs
Okay, some of you need less hair. How about a latex Bald Head Cap from our theatrical store.?This is a stretch latex cap for an adjustable one size for all fit! These are made long to be trimmed to fit with scissors or acetone and can be glued into place with double face tape, liquid latex or spirit gum. These are a transparent flesh color that can be used as is or colored using any mask makeups. (Kind of looks like a clear balloon).
Regular street makeup and theatrical makeup will chip, peel, and crack after a few hours unless you use Castor Sealer. We suggest using mask makeup for the best, long lasting look.
