WHAT SIZE HORSE RUG SHOULD I BUY?
Horses come in all different shapes and sizes just like we do! When deciding which size rug to purchase we suggest that you do the following steps:
Measure your horse to get an approximate sizing. Do this by measuring in a straight line from the centre of the horse’s chest, around the shoulder, along the side and belly and around the rear to a point just around the rump or to where you would like the rug to sit. This method is an approximation but can be used as a guide for your rug.
If you have an existing rug that fits your horse well, measure it. Remember that some rugs can stretch, shrink or change shape over time. It is best to lay the rug flat and measure from the front edge of the rug, between the two chest straps, along the length of the rug, to the rear edge of the rug. Make sure to close the gussets before measuring the rug.

Wild Horse Australia - Rug Size Guide
|Wild Horse Australia Rugs are designed to fit your horse safely and securely so they stay put on your horse all day long. They should fit snuggly. Rugs that are too tight or too loose can cause rubbing and irritation to you horse’s shoulders, hips and wither. They can be dangerous to your horse’s safety, particularly if they are too large.
See the table below to help assist you with the appropriate rug size for your horse. You will also need to consider the confirmation and build of your horse when choosing a size. Please contact us if you need advice.
Each rug size varies by 3 inches in length. To measure your horse for the correct size, measure from the middle of the chest, in a straight line, to the rear of the rump where your rug ends as shown below. If your measurement is between sizes then it is safer for your horse if you take the smaller size.
