Bras -How to measure

Finding the perfect fitting bra for you on Bras N Things official eBay store is a piece of cake!

All you need to do is find the cup size that 'fits' your body size. Naturally then, the first step is to determine your body size, which is based on your 'under bust' measurement. The second step is to determine your cup size, which is based on your 'bust' measurement and how it 'fits' with your body size (using our clever fitting matrix below). Now we'll take you through it step by step.

Step 1 Body Size

First step is to determine your body size. To do this, obtain your 'under bust' measurement by measuring around your rib cage. Then use this measurement to determine your body size, based on the table below. For example, if your 'under bust' measurement is 75 cm, you will fall within the 72-77 cm 'under bust' measurement range in the table below. Therefore, your corresponding body size will be a size 12.

Note: Make sure you take your measurements whilst wearing a suitable bra, and with no outer garments. Measure yourself holding the tape measure firmly against you. Make no extra allowances; if you are in between sizes, we suggest you opt for the larger size.

Body Size 10 12 14 16 18 20 22
Under Bust Measurement 67-72 72-77 77-82 82-87 87-92 92-97 97-102

*All units of measurement are in centimeters (cm).

Step 2 Cup Size

Second step is to determine your cup size. To do this, obtain your 'bust' measurement by measuring around the fullest part of your bust. Then use this measurement, coupled with your body size, to determine your cup size - based on the table below. For example, if your 'bust' measurement is 96 cm, and your body size is 12, you will fall within the 95-97 cm 'bust' measurement range, for size 12, in the table below. Therefore, your corresponding cup size will be Cup DD.

Body Size 10 12 14 16 18 20 22
Under Bust Measurement 67-72 72-77 77-82 82-87 87-92 92-97 97-102

*All units of measurement are in centimeters (cm).

Step 3 Bra Size

Third step is to select your bra size. Your bra size is simply the combination of your body size and cup size. Therefore, if your body size is 12 and your cup size is Cup DD, your bra size is 12 DD! Perfect.

Bras - Find a good fit

Underband

The underband around your body should be firm but comfortable. You should be able to run a finger under the band. If it is too tight, you need a larger size or wider hook placement. Make sure you fasten the bra on the first hook when first fitting.

Proportion

The back and front of the bra should be parallel to the waistline or slightly lower in the back. The lower edge of the band should anchor between the shoulder blades. The lower the back fits, the better the support.

Centre Front

The centre gusset should lie flat against the breast bone, not bridge away from the body. If it doesn't, your cup size could be too small, or the panel could be too small to accommodate the separation between your breasts.

Underwire

Underwire should lie flat against your rib cage, enclosing your breasts without rubbing or digging into the soft tissue of your armpit. If they bulge, consider a larger cup size.

Cups

The cup should have a smooth outline, without bulging at the top or the sides. The cups should not pucker or wrinkle.

Support

The bra should support the weight of your breasts mainly with the underband. The cup and shoulder straps will share the remaining amount of support.

Silhouette

Check your silhouette. The bust should be midway between the top of the shoulder and the bend of the elbow, to create a silhouette of balanced proportions.

Straps

The straps should be adjusted to support comfortably, without pressure or cutting into the shoulder.

Bras - Fit solutions

Cup

Problem Breast is spilling out of cup, and top of cup is cutting in
Solution The cup size is too small. Increase the cup size until the breast fits smoothly into the cup.

Problem Cup is wrinkled and is over-covering breast; breast does not fit securely inside cup
Solution The cup size is too big. Decrease the cup size until the breast fits smoothly into the cup and there is no wrinkled fabric.

Solution Cup size is too big. Decrease the cup size until the breast fits smoothly and there is no gaping at the neckline.

Underband

Problem Underband rides up at the back

Straps

Bras - Bra components

Finding the perfect bra for you at Bras N Things' official eBay store is simple really; It all starts with appreciating the finer details of your bra...

Front

Apex

Is the meeting point for the neckline and underarm. The position of the apex when fit on the body will help to determine a good fitting bra.

Cups

The most critical component, being the key sculptors of the natural bust. They can vary from shape and density, to offer many different levels of décolletage and fit, for a sexy push-up effect to subtle shaping.

Centre Gusset
A centre support for the entire frame of the bra. Provides under-bust stabilisation and support. It also creates many levels of bust separation for desired styling effects. The centre gusset is a critical part of the bra that will define a great fitting and comfortable bra.

Straps

The final fitting component working in conjunction with all other components to provide an anchoring, minor level of support. Standard strapping will feature a slide adjustment to offer flexibility in shapes or proportions, for all body lengths.

Back & Inside

Side Boning

Offers side support and stabilising. An added level of support for further fit enhancement.

Wires

Work with the cup to further define and stabilize the bust. Wires ar ea very important feature in offering solid support and uplift to the natural bust. Non-wired bras offer a more relaxed fit. For particular styling and fit purposes, a wire will not be included in a bra.

Hook and Eye

Offers fit adjustment with a standard of three extensions to allow flexibility in firmness and support.
